Han Lin – Monthly Men’s Ministry Meetups: Many men have the tendency to be “lone wolves”, but we are called to live and grow in Christ through community. For that reason, we will organize monthly meetups for brothers to share their lives, pray for each other, enjoy manly things, and grow healthier both spiritually and physically! Some examples of potential meetups are Friday nights at a brewery or prayer paired with an activity (e.g. surfing, road biking, basketball). Here’s what we have planned!
Chris Lau – Bible Book Study: Micah. Fridays, 6/10, 6/24, 7/8, and 7/22. 7:30pm-9pm. In-person. (Limit 12) Looking at the world, it is clear that things are not as they ought to be. Turn on the news and you’ll find it filled with tragedy and injustice. The question arises, “How ought a Christian live in a broken world?” Join us for an in-depth study of the book of Micah. This will not be a discussion centered around political/social hot topics, asking “What does the Bible say about…?” It will be an in-depth study of Micah. Who was Micah? Who was he writing to? What was the context in which the book was written? What was the message for the people then? What can we learn from it as Christians in America in 2022? Our hope is to learn from Micah, and through its lens, better see the hope of God for our own brokenness, as well as the brokenness of this world. REGISTER here.
Rebecca Wu – Bible Book Study: Women’s Accountability. Women attending Chris Lau’s Friday Bible Book Studies are invited to gather on the alternating weeks for accountability and prayer. Based on reflections from the prior week’s study. The next round will begin on Thursday, April 28th, 6:30pm-9pm in Torrance. Schedule to be discussed among participants. (Limit 10) REGISTER
Russ Hightower – Book Study: Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers by Dane Ortlund. Books will be free and available on Sundays. All are invited to participate. Wednesdays on Zoom. (10 weeks) March 9, 16, 23, 30. Break. April 13, 20, 27. May 4, 11, 18. From 7pm-8:30pm. REGISTER
Joe Brown – Bible Interpretation: An in-depth study of Hermeneutics (Three weeks). Reading the Bible involves many factors: the Holy Spirit, the reader, the text, the original author, and their historical context. Joe will discuss how to approach Scripture to discover its true meaning, which oftentimes is different from the reader’s meaning. We all have an interpretive method when reading anything, but using the wrong method when reading the Bible can determine whether you are receiving the Word of God or the word of man. In-person. Limit seven. Tuesdays, April 26, May 3, & 10. 6pm-7:30pm REGISTER
Chris Lau – Bible Book Study: 2 John, 3 John, and Jude. Fridays, March 4 & 18, April 1. 7:30pm-9pm. In-person. (Limit 12) REGISTER
Tricia Brown – Book Study (Women only.): Respectable Sins: A 9-Week Small-Group Curriculum: Confronting the Sins We Tolerate by Jerry Bridges. Purchase the full study guide linked HERE, not just the book, and not both. The full book is already included in this study guide! Saturdays, March 12, 26; April 9, 23; May 7, 8:30am-10am. In-person, Limit seven. REGISTER
Joe Brown – Finding Your Fit: An in-depth study of Spiritual Gifts (Four weeks). Every follower of Jesus received one or more spiritual gifts. Yet one poll indicated that half do not know what their gifts are, a fourth claim non-biblical gifts, and only a fourth identify biblical gifts. Joe will teach through each of the gifts (about 20), including the controversial sign-gifts, and direct you towards serving in a way that is fulfilling and needed by the rest of the church. $10 for materials. In-person, Limit seven. Thursdays, March 10, 17, 24, & 31. 7pm-8:30pm REGISTER
Joe Brown – People Skills: To bond or not to bond: that is our ongoing question! (One week). This is about relational skills. We will cover topics like your background (Don’t worry, you don’t have to share anything!), listening, giving a compassionate response, empathy, handling conflict, and how people feel about you. Limit eight. Thursday, May 26th. 6pm-7:30pm. REGISTER here.
Joe Brown – Communication Skills: The Sender & Receiver, Good Ideas & Oral Clarity (Two weeks). Joe will talk about vital tips for leading people through a flow of thought; whether you’re in a conversation, talking to coworkers, or giving a presentation in front of a lot of people. He’ll talk about preparation, gestures, illustrations, and how to end well. Joe will also cover general, but powerful, leadership principles! In-person. Limit seven. Tuesdays, May 17 & 24. 7pm-8:30pm REGISTER
